I see I forgot to name that “instinct” in my previous report. Her name is Anaxandra Gaultier, and she is both a blessing and a trial. Evidently she is the remains of my previous incarnation, living within my own mind. I suspect if I ever get a few months to myself we’ll sit down and write her memoirs, but until then suffice it to say Shut up, Ana!

Additionally, Wind’s Tradition and I have taken up a more permanent arrangement, and combined our finances. He had a great deal of time to gather up a stockpile of gems, magical materials, and various metals, and we’re still sorting through them. At this point I’ve found it far more simple to teach him the basics of accounting and allow him to maintain a list himself, hence Accounting Documents 24 and 24b. The above are his current estimates.

Continuing from the previous log, then:

Remember when I called Silent Tempest sneaky? Turns out we were to gain an even sneakier friend, a Dragon King named Arrnax’t. He is quite large, orange, and so sneaky I’m half tempted to make him a bell so he stops scaring me. Yes, he’s that bad. He is quite delightful though, and a very quick study.

After he introduced himself, we made our descent to the city of Dijak. There was some battling on the way, before we met some of the other Jadeborn. We gained passage after confirming we were Celestial Exalts (I’ll note I was the first to catch on and flare her castemark.), and were debriefed on reaching the city. Wind asked to pay off the Mountain Folk and People of the Earth’s debt to me by continuing to act as my apprentice. I suspect ulterior motives, but am not complaining. For access to the library and Archives, we were asked to find out what Han-Tha thinks he’s doing and stop him. Before journeying to the Archives, though, we spent some time resting in Wind’s old quarters, where Marast and I had the strangest shared dream.

It started out as the usual one, when Marast appeared, and lead me to a cheering crowd. Somehow that lead to a room where Anaxandra awaited us, and gave both of us gems, advising us “There is always a Way, though it may not be the one you like.” When we looked up, we were surrounded by yellow fog, and we could hear blood and smell roses. The fog seemed burnt away by our presence though, and as it cleared we saw a Great Tree with fruit and leaves of jade. A petal fell and landed on my nose, and the scene changed. Transcript follows:

“Are you sure this will work?” Maman?

“For a given value of ‘work’.”

The scene shifted again. In my hands, shifting between them, were three orbs; one of fire, one made of naught but air and filigree, one the very image of the Daystar itself. “Well? You can’t juggle them forever. Which is it?” A voice whispered behind me. I turned and called out, but there was nothing. And then, I stood for a moment in the River of All Memories and it threatened to submerge me and consume me and I WILL BE SWEPT AWAY-

The sound of a single drop hitting calm, still water. “WE ARE THAT WE ARE.”

… That was longer than I intended it to be. In any case, Marast’s dream diverged at the Tree. Tempest got another taste of his own toes in revealing that Marast and I are Bondmates, and nearly got himself killed by Marast. Once Marast and I had a chance to calm down, we agreed I had never done anything to betray his trust and for some odd reason he called me a good person, and decided to stay. I’m making him a lock box and giving him all the keys to it. Tempest got kicked in the balls at some point, and we are to make our way to the Archives of Voile. I’m dating this for today, the 17th, rather than for the 28th as the past three days require a summary as long as an average two weeks’ entry would. I suspect future readers will appreciate this.

Tunnel Car -> Sun Says Hi

Log of the Caravan of the Devouring of the Daughter of Rathess, Volume the Sixth.
Day the Fourteenth, Month of Ascending Air, Realm’s Year of Seven-hundreds, Sixty, and Nine.
Cross-Reference Accounting Document 23. General Financial Summary Follows:

1/2 talent; Jade.
2 talent, 3 dirham; Silver.
Equivalent of 8? talents Jade in gemstones. Has yet to be fully cataloged.
Metal stock below projected needs, all other stock in excess of projected needs.
Armor and Weapons in good repair.
Personal supplies largely within projected needs.

Weather: Sunny and pleasant. Almost obnoxiously so.

First week of Ascending Air was occupied by rigging a variant of a tunnel car with the expertise of the Jadeborn now known as Wind’s Tradition. Schematics are in Planning Documents 143-5. This was pleasant and resulted in certain… interesting encounters. That is, the son of a bitch seduced me. Can’t complain though, it was remarkably pleasant and we appear to get on quite well regardless of my general proclivities. He’s quite accommodating in that regard actually, and has managed to progress further than any man I’ve ever met while not being a smug asshole or pushy. It’s actually quite delightful, and the look on his face when I’m making things…

Note to self: He needs a present. I need to see how he reacts to them. Yes.

Moving on, on the 12th day of the month, we were putting the finishing touches on the car when not one, but two, strangers dropped in on us. I mean that quite literally, the ground above had become so thin they both fell right in. It was rather amusing, actually. They are known as Marast the Unbroken and Silent Tempest, a Lunar and a… I believe the term is Sidereal, though I’ve never heard of such an Exalt before. It’s most odd. Marast is pleasant enough but Tempest appears to have a fondness for the taste of his own toes. In any case, the boys got to hold off a load of darkbrood – see encounter records 256-9, particularly #257 – while I finished up with the tunnel car. We got the People of the Earth (their proper name) loaded up and set off for Mount Eledath. It’s the strangest thing I’ve ever driven, and naturally had a malfunction I had to tend to en-route. Luckily one of the Earthfolk was a capable driver.

In any case, we reached the mountain without much trouble, though the ride was most crowded. When we arrived, we spoke with the local population of Dragon Kings. That was a rather illuminating experience, if you’ll forgive the pun. Eldest Brother Teol’tin was quite informative, and we bargained for passage in exchange for securing copies of texts on methods of Enlightenment to aid with the stalkers’ education. We agreed to camp overnight and take the elevator down some time the next day. Everyone was in desperate need of a bath – most especially Marast, who needed a flea treatment. Rare to see a grown man so embarrassed. Tempest spent much time sneaking about and secret-keeping, but came clean the next day.

To good effect, as I commented upon while the lot of us shared our backstories. To my great surprise, someone answered my comment. Though I was unsure, Wind and I concluded it was most likely the Most High, which I later confirmed. A transcript of the event:

I… know I don’t pray as much as I probably should. But if You’re listening, Ignis Divine… Then so am I

Be not afraid.
YOU, Wanderer and Child of Wanderers and Exile from Wanderers, know that my house is yours.
YOU, who sit in the ruins of a Time of Glory, know that Glory is once again at hand.
YOU, who seek both Vengeance and Wisdom, know that these paths will diverge.

I believe my Essence increased as a result of the event above. I do know I’ve learned a new charm for increasing the effectiveness of investigations. I don’t believe I’m permitted to comment on subtlety.

Loq Exalts

Log of the Caravan of the Devouring of the Daughter of Rathess, Volume the Sixth.
Day the First, Month of Ascending Air, Realm’s Year of Seven-hundreds, Sixty, and Nine.
Cross-Reference Accounting Document 23. General Financial Summary Follows:

1/2 talent; Jade.
2 talent, 3 dirham; Silver.
All stock in excess of projected needs.
Armor and Weapons in good repair.
Personal supplies all within projected needs.

Weather: Sunny, but fucking cold for the south. I’m pretty sure I can see my breath aboveground.

Continuing from the final log in the fifth volume of this travel log-

The city was almost entirely in ruins at that point, and to my shock, I was not only still standing, but glowing with a light to rival that of the Sun above. Seeing as I had somehow survived the blast that had leveled the city, I had little choice but to flee. I did not have time to speak with my father, and had only time to prepare my wagons and move on before the survivors could make sense and blame myself or the Caravan of Flickering Lights in the Eye of Rock. Some… instinct, I suppose, directed me to flee for a hidden place in the mountains, instead of skirting them in favor of the desert.

To my surprise, I found a young warrior in similar circumstances in the ruins of a Guild caravan she appeared to have wrecked. Fuura has recently expressed a desire to strike out on her own, rather than continuing on as a companion of mine, so I shall not dwell on her here. Suffice it to say our instincts pointed towards the same area – as soon became obvious, a mountaintop quite isolated from the world. On arrival, we found it to have once been a grid of small manses.

I should take a moment to note that yes, we did in fact arrive on my birth-day, and did in fact have to travel during Calibration. It was not a pleasant journey, but remained mostly uneventful. If froggy.

In any case, strange molehills attracted our attention. I lost my favorite spear in the investigation, but have found a companion most strange. His kind are known as the Jadeborn, and he appears to be a golem of Jade and gemstones. Quite beautiful, but nameless. He guards a group of people, some sort of earthy folk adapted to live underground as well. They have collectively requested help returning to their home, an underground city known as Dijak. Evidently these Jadeborn cannot travel above ground except in the company of a Celestial Exalt like myself, and the Earthfolk refuse to abandon him.

I agreed – this was the cause of Fuura’s desire to leave. Evidently she finds such a quest unappealing. Ever since, the Jadeborn has been paying an inordinate amount of attention to myself. Perhaps he fears I will leave to pursue my own goals as well? I suppose such a fear is reasonable, all told, though I have no intent of doing so. I cannot devise the Realm’s destruction alone and without allies, no matter how great my talents have become.

Annotation: In the months since I began this log, I have gathered companions sufficient to justify the naming of this caravan. The proper name is now present.
